HRCE is inviting qualified
School Counsellors interested in School Counsellor opportunities for the 2024-25 school year to apply to this expression of interest.
The School Counsellor is responsible for the coordination of the comprehensive counselling program within the school, focusing on preventative and responsive programs and services. These programs and services must be principally concerned with the personal, social, educational and career needs of all students, placing priority on the best interest of students.
Contracts are with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. If offered a contract, recipients will be advised in the Spring of the applicable staffing process and timelines to secure a School Counsellor position within one of our 138 schools for September 2024.

Candidates who meet the following qualifications are encouraged to monitor postings and apply:
- Master of Education Degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology or equivalent (minimum 48 credit hours with courses related to counselling skills and practice;
- Masters courses must include counselling theory and practice*, group counselling theory and practice*, practice issues and ethics, counselling theory and practicum*, counselling strategies and interventions*, principles of assessment for counselling, research design in education, career and transition counselling, theory of human development, diversity or culturally responsive pedagogy. *Courses related to counselling skills and practice must be completed on site (face-to-face) under the supervision of the counsellor educator; elective courses may be taken online; preference for courses contextualized for the education setting;
- Minimum 500-hour supervised practicum component (inclusive of 250 direct hours and 50 group hours), preferably in a school-based practicum setting;
- Counselling practicum in school counselling or minimum of 1 year of counselling experience in education (public, private, post-secondary)
- A valid Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate;
