NBCC students within the Truck and Transport Service Technician Program or Heavy Equipment Service Technician are encouraged to apply for a flexible internship with J.D. Irving Ltd. to start earning money during your studies and build your work experience. We can offer flexible shifts around your school hours. Successful interns will receive first consideration for full-time summer employment and/or an apprenticeship position post-graduation as well as other student incentives.
In this internship opportunity, you will serve as a Garage Shop Hand shadowing our experienced technicians and providing assistance on a variety of tasks to support the team in the garage. You will receive on-the-job training to complete your duties that will apply to your studies and will be mentored by professional, licensed technicians and other top leaders in your field. You will get broad exposure to a range of vehicles and heavy equipment working in a state-of-the-art maintenance garage located in Chipman, NB.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Handle Materials within the shop and outdoors as required;
- Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner;
- Keep shop area neat and clean;
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment;
- Attend and participate in team meetings, safety meetings and inspections;
- Perform various other related duties as assigned.
As the ideal candidate, you possess:
- High school diploma or equivalent and be current enrolled in a Truck and Transport Service Technician Program or Heavy Equipment Service Technician Program with NBCC.
- A mechanical aptitude with an interest in pursuing a career in the field.
- Good listening and strong verbal communication.
- Positive, friendly attitude, along with a customer service focus;
- Able to perform manual/physical labour and repetitive tasks.
- Strong regard for safety and safe work practices
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Candidates must own steel toed work boots.
