Job Description
Overview: Term: 1 year The Research Coordinator and Data Analyst will work in a research environment to assist the Principal Investigator and other research students and staff with various research activities. This position will work on the Neurocognition and Mobility research team in the Kinesiology and Health Sciences Department at the University, and perform varied and complex research duties related to relevant research projects and activities. This role will be focused on developing and testing new clinical outcome assessments (which includes clinically rated and patient reported outcomes) for individual’s with Parkinson’s disease who experience balance and gait deficits, with special attention on addressing outcomes to assess freezing of gait severity, which is one of the most debilitating symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Project management skills, clinical research experience, and clinometric statistical knowledge and experience are assets for this role. This position is contingent on funding. Responsibilities: Research Support: Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Assists with and oversees the progress of projects and participates in research activities by performing tasks, such as ethics amendments for clearance, site training, participant recruitment, data collection, multi-site organizations meetings to provide updates Organize and maintain documentation, experimental records and data; including electronic files and backups; data entry, quality assurance and control, and managing data storage Performs complex assessments such as Unified Parkinson’s disease Rating Scale, surveys, mobility assessments using inertial measurement units and psychophysiological techniques and conducts analysis, video annotations and interpretation Directly contributes to research by performing critical analysis and interpretation of research data and compiling a statistical report for the clinical outcome assessments Participate and oversee the organization and recruitment of research participants Contributes to the development of research related documents, including ethics applications, statistical reports, regulatory planning documentation, journal publications and dissemination of research findings May facilitate patient advisory and expert advisory committee meetings as well as supervise, schedule and train students, volunteers and/or staff and make recommendations on hiring for the project Assists with special projects and other duties related to the research Manages and oversees the safe and effective daily operations of a laboratory including responsibility for large purchase recommendations, inventory, forecasting and maintenance of reports Operates, maintains and troubleshoots problems with standard and complex research equipment, may include training others on the use of the equipment and contributing to the development and maintenance of SOP’s Qualifications: Completion of post-secondary degree or equivalent education and experience; post-graduate degree is an asset Degree in the field of study related to medicine, neuroscience, psychology, health sciences, kinesiology, biomedical statistics is preferred Knowledge or background experience in evaluating or treating PD motor symptoms such as freezing of gait is an asset Clinical Outcome Assessment experience and related clinometric statistical experience is preferred Three to five year’s experience in a clinical or research academic environment is preferred Three to five years of project management or clinical trials coordinating experience is an asset Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality Knowledge of University of Waterloo policies and procedures is an asset Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of software applications used in an office/lab setting, including word, excel, access, qualitrics REDcap, Intermediate signal processing skills for wearable sensor data and programming for big data and continuous health monitoring data Proven high-quality customer service interactions with colleagues and patients Proven aptitude for attention to detail Demonstrated decision-making skills, including the ability to ask probing questions and anticipate customer needs during a research interview Excellent communication skills, oral and written Supervisory and leadership experience in a lab setting is an asset Ability to prioritize multiple demands with competing deadlines Equity Statement: The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples.
