Job Description
The
Outdoor Adventure Guide is based at Fogo Island Inn, coordinates the Community Host program, through designing a schedule of activities for guests. The
Outdoor Adventure Guide possesses respect and knowledge for the history and culture of rural Newfoundland, particularly for Fogo Island.
General responsibilities:
- Lead Inn guests on hikes on either of our registered trails.
- Lead outdoor excursions and adventures, providing instruction, guidance, and support to participants.
- Be willing to lead hikes in poor weather conditions while always keeping the safety of our guests the number one priority.
- Ensure the safety of participants by assessing environmental conditions and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Conduct daily inspections of outdoor clothing and equipment as well as weekly inventory checks.
- Must ensure guests are wearing the appropriate outdoor clothing for the season.
- Assist in the development of new, longer trails on Fogo Island
- Assist in the development and deliver new outdoor programs for Inn guests.
- Assist all in-house guests with planning their outdoor activities during their stay.
- Assist team members in development of future guest itineraries.
- Interpret and educate participants about the natural environment, including ecology, geology, flora, and fauna.
- Be willing to learn about local flora and fauna which may not be known at time of onboarding.
- Be knowledgeable of different navigation techniques and GPS systems.
- Be knowledgeable about the history of Fogo Island
- Upholds the highest standard of confidentiality by keeping information confidential.
- Contributes to team efficiency and effectiveness through a high level of professionalism, objectiveness, and perseverance.
- Be willing to participate in first-aid training and certification requirements.
- Other responsibilities as directed by management.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate:
- Certified Canadian Driver’s License
- Strong communication and oral skills
- Quick to respond and capable of making sound decision making
- Personable
