PRIMARY FUNCTION: IT Technical Supportworks with PSA Halifax Management to strategize computer related technology solutions at the individual user level, to meet PSA Halifax goals and business needs. The position provides technical assistance in computers, applications, software, and answers questions/concerns on all computer/electronic equipment. The IT Technical Support Specialist provides assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installations, word processing, electronic mail, and operating systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following, but not limited to: Oversee the daily performance of computer systems at the user level; answers user inquiries regarding computer software/hardware operation to resolve problems; sets up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, and/or appropriate software; plan, implement and migrate operation system upgrades; ensure efficient, effective, and secured working email systems mail server; performs hands on troubleshooting of all types of equipment including but not limited to: Computers, Laptops, Tablets, Cell Phones, Printers, Copiers, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Diploma in Technology and/or Information Technology from a recognizable educational institution.
- At least 2+ years practical experience working in Information Technology or IT Support. Experience working with Technical Systems in a Container Port is also considered an advantage. A combination of education, training and experience is also accepted.
- Ability to trouble shoot errors and issues, and recommend value added solutions with ease. Able to develop technical solutions to assist day to day user related problems
- Managing and controlling NTFS Permissions including security and sharing permissions. Microsoft Office 365/Azure including managing and maintaining Exchange configurations and mailboxes. Microsoft Office Suites - Efficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Minor programming understanding of SQL, PHP, HTML. Effectively navigate and troubleshoot Windows operating systems, iOS, and Linux operating systems. Schedule jobs, restores and backups using Veeam. DNS management using BIND. Experience in managing VMware systems for virtual environments.
