Position Title: Freelance Copywriter (contract position) Company Name: CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures Reports To: Manager, Copy & Content Reports: 0 Location of Work: Remote within Canada Job Status: Freelance 8-month contract - Possibility of extension FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Number of Positions: 1 Date of Last Review: December 2023 Anticipated Start Date: Mid-January 2024 Please upload 3-5 writing samples as part of your application. Position Overview We're looking for a freelance writer who knows how to unleash the power of words across a variety of channels. We need an astute storyteller who is experienced at creating clear, compelling copy that's steeped in marketing strategy (hello, SEO and CTAs that inspire swift clicks). The position includes writing and repurposing copy for a combination of the following, with an emphasis on advertising, email and website copy: Paid digital and social advertising. A combination of general awareness and retargeting ads tailored to each platform. Print ads and promotional materials for magazines, newspapers, posters, signage, and other printed formats. HTML and text-based emails to CMH's winter and summer databases, or for third-party email sends Website copy for all aspects of CMH's winter and summer websites, as well as our booking site. This could include web banners, headlines, body copy, homepage elements, landing pages, trip listings, educational pages, etc. Short-form and long-form blog articles for CMH Stories that incorporate interviews and direct quotes from CMH guests and staff. This could include people profiles, technical advice articles, event/video promotions, etc. Special projects and publications as needed. This opportunity is for you if you're excited to write about the adventure travel/outdoor space (heli-skiing and heli-hiking), if you thrive working remotely with a high degree of independence, and if you can provide strong examples of your published work. This is an 8-month contract based on approximately 35 hours of work per week. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Interpret copywriting briefs to understand project requirements. Work with members of the marketing team to create copy for projects and campaigns across a variety of mediums, channels and formats. Write copy that is clear, engaging and reflective of brand voice and tone. Write copy that is tactical and incorporates archetype, channel and marketing strategy. Use SEO principles to strengthen online writing. Conduct research and interviews with CMH guests and staff. Attend occasional online meetings as needed. Edit and proofread copy. Deliver high-quality assignments on time. Use an online task management platform to receive, track, collaborate and deliver assignments. Minimum Qualifications Post-secondary education in a related field. A minimum of 2 years of proven copywriting experience. Agency experience is an asset. Must be able to provide recent samples of published work. Knowledge of online content strategy and creation. Knowledge of ad copy strategy and creation. Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Qualities Demonstrates integrity, discretion, critical thinking, and adaptability. Is organized with clear attention to detail and proofreading skills. Familiarity with Canadian Press Style an asset. Able to communicate at a high level in a clear, effective, and timely manner over the phone, in person, and in written communication. Ability to think critically about an assignment and make recommendations. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and professional working relationships with peers. Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office. Able to prioritize tasks and responsibilities in a complex and fast-paced environment with seasonal workload fluctuations and changing priorities. Trustworthy, goal-oriented, respectful, and self-directed. Confidence to interact with all levels of the company in a hub-and-spoke model in which many employees are remote. Strong sense of work ethic and accountability, with an ability to function well in a team environment and focus on team success. Working Conditions As a freelance position, you must provide your own computer and supporting equipment. Compensation A compensation package will be provided based on qualifications, experience, and skill set.
