What You'll Do Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Lead Facilities Technician will:

  • Conduct emergency repairs, preventative maintenance and scheduled repairs on base building systems and subsystems, including a wide range of HVAC, electrical and mechanical equipment and its software where applicable.
  • Will instruct and train staff on system maintenance and operating procedures.
  • Will keep abreast of changes and new developments in both products and technology and attend training programs as required.
  • Warehouse duties and inventory control
  • Assist facilities staff with classroom/event setups
  • Coordinate work with contractors and help oversee construction projects.
  • Ability to work at multiple sites on a scheduled, on call rotation. Some travel required.
  • Other duties as required
  • Will supervise individuals to work safely and competently

What You'll Need Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is Inter Provincial Journeyperson in HVAC, Electrical, Instrumentation Mechanics, Plumbing, or acceptable equivalent such as BES Level 2 or Power Engineering. Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations would be considered an asset, as would Standard First Aid and CPR. BOMA Energy Training for Building Operations Certification would also be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of four years recent and related occupational experience in HVAC control, life safety, or related computer, security, mechanical, or electrical systems. Your occupational experience includes demonstrated experience in computerized energy management systems and the ability to use test instruments. With specific experience in HVAC, building maintenance, building controls, fire systems & warehouse-inventory control.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, building automation, Megamation
  • You have demonstrated experience providing maintenance duties general and/or preventative and/or scheduled) (boilers, rooftop/air handling units, heat pumps, generators)

  • You possess a trade or you possess experience providing assistance to a trade (Electrical, HVAC, Power Engineer, Plumbing, instrumentation or equivalent. Other certificates/trades will be considered)
  • You demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence by providing essential services to building staff and students in a professional manner.
  • You are dedicated to life-long learning such as continuing education & keeping certificates up to date
  • You show a strong commitment to community involvement
  • You are able to perform all physical duties of the job as required for the operation and maintenance of the facilities and operation of small hand tools and shop equipment
  • Possession of a valid NS Driver's License is a bona fide relevant occupational requirement of this position. Forklift training would be considered an asset
