Southwest Surveys is searching for a Survey Field Technician to join our growing team in Newmarket, New Brunswick. Located 15-minutes west of Fredericton, we are strategically placed to serve the greater capital region, including Nackawic, Woodstock, Charlotte County and the Fundy Isles.

Our core service lines include boundary surveys, pre-engineering and topographic surveys, subdivisions and construction layout. We are well diversified among these markets and beyond. In any given week you might find yourself retracing large rural woodlots, laying out concrete or structural steel for new building construction, searching for property evidence downtown, or conducting a topographic survey at a commercial or industrial site. The work is challenging but rewarding, the terrain can be rugged, and the views are often spectacular.

Responsibilities

As Survey Field Technician you will be primarily responsible to undertake a wide variety of land surveying and geomatics projects in the field. You will operate and maintain survey equipment such as robotic total stations, GNSS systems, automatic levels, and drones. The team will rely on your ability to conduct thorough and accurate work, make detailed notes and recordings, perform calculations, and effectively collaborate with surveyors, engineers, clients, and project managers. You will be provided the tools and training to do your job well and the time to stay up to date as technology progresses and surveying standards evolve.

Qualifications

• A technical certificate or diploma in surveying (or equivalent) is required. Survey field experience is considered an asset and may be considered in lieu of a certificate or diploma depending on its relevance and number of years experience.
• You must be knowledgeable in operating survey equipment and possess a strong understanding of surveying principles and methodologies.
• An understanding of survey law (real property law) is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills are required as is a keen attention to detail.
• Solid organizational and interpersonal skills are needed to manage the needs of a number of project managers across several jobsites.
• The job is physically demanding, requiring that you be capable of undertaking hard work and long days in a variety of seasonal conditions in both urban and rural (at times remote) locations.
• A valid driver's license is required. You will also be required to operate ATV's, snowmobiles, and chainsaws competently and safely.
