Senior Project Coordinator [New Brunswick Community College (NBCC)]

Job Description
New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) is committed to transforming lives and communities. This is a 5- year Term employment opportunity for the period of February 2024 to September 2028, located at the NBCC Saint John campus.

Responsibilities

As part of the Finance and Administration Division and reporting to the Manager of Facilities Planning and Projects, the Senior Project Coordinator is accountable for the coordination and oversight of the renewal of NBCC's Saint John Grandview Ave campus.

This position will require an intimate knowledge of Canadian construction industry standards and processes.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • Maintaining membership in the Grandview Ave Renewal project committee representing NBCC with other stakeholders
  • Working with third party consultants through various stages of assessment, conception, design, tender and construction administration of projects.
  • Working with New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, NBCC staff, stakeholders and contractors to deliver successful construction projects for NBCC on budget and on time.
  • In consultation with the Manager of Facilities Planning and Projects, being responsible for the project management of assigned projects, including pre-design data gathering, design review, tender preparation, contractor site visits and coordination meetings, site inspections, purchase order requisition, invoice review and project close-out including review, processing, digitizing and archiving of project documents such as maintenance manuals, warranties, as-built drawings, record drawings and maintenance materials.
  • Ensuring compliance with WorkSafe NB regulations for all work done by external contractors. Prior to mobilization, arrange for and participate in review of contractor's safety plan and organize a contractor safety orientation.
  • Routinely inspecting project worksites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations. As required, notify contractor, stop jobs, and report for resolution.
  • Communicating construction project scope of work to stakeholders and arrange for operational adjustments to suit.
  • Reviewing draft RFP documents and suggesting edits as required prior to issuance.
  • Reviewing RFP submissions and providing feedback and recommendations to the selection committee.
  • Attending regular consultant design meetings during the design phases and provide feedback, guidance, and recommendations as required.
  • Providing a technical review of the milestone design submissions c/w comments and recommendations.
  • Ensuring the design adheres to the project's Functional Space Program (FSP) and implementing defined User requirements.
  • Assisting with timely communication between contractor, consultant and stakeholders.
  • Reviewing change documentation, providing comments and recommendations.
  • Providing on-site construction reviews of the work as it progresses with regular updates to the project team.
  • Confirming all construction deficiency corrections and track project closeout and documentation.
  • Facilitating user training of the space and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / Degree or trades license in a related construction discipline field with years of related and relevant experience
  • Education in Building Science such as Engineering, Interior Design or Architecture would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with buildings and systems in a construction industry capacity.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with 5-10 years experience in a 'Consulting Engineer/Architect' or 'Project Manager/Project Coordinator' role
  • Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP) would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation and report writing skills.
  • Sound knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada, construction materials, methods, specifications and construction and building system principles.
  • Experience in an academic environment would be considered an asset.
  • Highly flexible with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to navigate and build relationships effectively throughout the organization
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, analytical ability, and innovative thinking.
  • Self-motivated, service and results oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and within a team.
  • A desire for continuous learning and growth.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License as travel will be required.
