Casual Fire Truck Casual Fire Truck Driver - Woodstock Fire Department (WFD)

The Town of Woodstock is looking for candidates interested in the opportunity to provide additional operations support for the Fire Department team. This is a casual position; however, hours may be consistent with a part-time equivalent over the regular two-week pay period. It is a unionized role with wages and benefits as set out in the Collective Agreement between the Town of Woodstock and CUPE Local 719. Shifts will primarily include evenings, weekends, holidays and some weekdays, with coverage based on staffing needs/demands.

The driver will be responsible for safe and reliable operation of the fire trucks (fire-fighting is not a job responsibility/duty of this position). All driving duties must be performed in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act of the Province of New Brunswick, regulations and municipal by-laws, and Town policies and procedures. Primary duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducting and documenting vehicle safety inspections as required
  • Post-trip refueling and light cleaning of vehicles as needed
  • Immediately report incidences, accidents or concerns to the Fire Chief and/or Deputy Chief
  • Completing driver’s logs, tracking hours worked as per departmental requirements and/or Town policies and procedures as applicable

Required Qualifications

  • A valid, unrestricted Class 3E driver’s licence with air brake endorsement and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience operating heavy trucks, buses or similar vehicles
  • Experience in the operation of fire apparatus is a definite asset
  • A clean driver’s abstract (5 years) which demonstrates a history of safe, reliable, legalized driving
  • Standard or Emergency First Aid Training & CPR is preferred and a willingness to be trained is essential
  • Knowledgeable of the municipal streets, roadways and routes in the Town of Woodstock and surrounding areas covered by the WFD
  • In accordance with Town of Woodstock By-Law #81 WFD membership must have a permanent residence located not more than 10 km driving distance of the fire hall
