Job Description
McDougall House is an Addiction residential treatment facility for 12 women in recovery. Our aim is to assist our clients in understanding the dynamics behind their addiction. We are an abstinence based facility, meaning women are not using alcohol, drugs, or gambling while in our treatment facility. This is a part-time, weekend position . The role of the Client Support Worker (CSW) is to support the work done by the counsellors during the weekdays and supervising the facility and the clients' adherence to the guidelines and expectations as outlined for participation in the program. The facility operates 24/7 which means that CSWs must be available to work the rotating schedule of the following 3 weekend shifts : Friday and Saturday 4pm- midnight Friday night midnight - Saturday 8 am and Saturday night midnight - Sunday 8 am. (with a rest period) Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm. Most shifts will be a work alone position with a counsellor being on-call. A CSW could work 1-3 weekends per month, meaning 16 hours - 42 hours per month, depending on your availability. Duties: Answer the front door, Answer the phone, responding to program inquiries but referring admission related inquiries to the counsellors, Demonstrate excellence in the provision of client services including medication distribution, documentation, urinalysis testing, assisting clients with understanding the facility schedule and routine. As a CSW you will have clients coming to talk with you about problems and concerns and to discuss relapse prevention. You will need to document what was discussed so the counsellors can follow up with any concerns. - Duties continued: Ensure through policy and practice that client confidentiality is maintained , Record client data and information accurately, objectively and comprehensively, and model for the clients the McDougall House values and help the clients to learn accountability in their actions and responsibilities. -Working in a home-like setting requires performing some domestic provisions such as laundry, cleaning, and assistance with meal preparation. Assisting with intake and discharge procedures when needed. Employment Requirements Education: Working towards completion of or have completed (diploma, certificate, degree) pertaining to Addiction, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or another human service profession. An asset: Knowledge of addictions, gender specific issues as they pertain to women as well as knowledge of Twelve Step programs and their significance for women in recovery. Understand the importance of Professional and Personal boundaries. Capable of taking initiative and making independent decisions while following the guidelines established for the clients in the program. A supportive listener, empathic and non-judgmental.
