Host Company- Who is OFI?
The Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI; http://ofi.ca) is a major global hub for ocean research headquartered at Dalhousie University with partners at major ocean research centers around the North Atlantic Ocean. OFI has established a Research Implementation Unit (RIU): a team of highly skilled and specialized technical staff who assist OFI researchers at Dalhousie with field research, data management and analysis, and interaction with key technical personnel from OFI partners.
The RIU supports ocean observation in Atlantic Canada and uses emerging technology to observe, understand and predict physical, biogeochemical and ecological change in the ocean. OFI has a strong partnership with the Ocean Tracking Network (http://oceantrackingnetwork.org), also hosted at Dalhousie University. OFI cooperates with multiple partners in Atlantic Canada, including Memorial University of Newfoundland, the University of Prince Edward Island, Laval University, and UQAR as well as government partners such as the Bedford Institute of Oceanography
What you will be doing:
In the summer of 2024, a student intern will collaborate with a supervisor to implement the ERDDAP Management Solution. This will encompass experimentation, development, testing, and deployment.
ERDDAP is a data server that provides a simple, consistent means of downloading subsets of scientific datasets in various file formats and also of producing graphs and maps. This versatile server is used primarily for oceanographic, environmental, and earth science data. ERDDAP unifies the different data storage formats and simplifies the process of retrieving data.
Currently, we have a project idea named 'ERDDAP Management Solution. This project aims to centrally manage our multiple ERDDAP instances. It is designed for various purposes, including managing both testing and production ERDDAP environments.
The project will assist in managing the workflow from development datasets to production datasets and facilitate the migration of datasets between different ERDDAP environments.
For monitoring and notifications, the system will check for missing or abnormal datasets and send notifications to designated portals regarding dataset updates.
Additionally, it will automatically generate reports for each dataset to verify data quality.

Benefits for the future:
After implementing the ERDDAP Management Solution, we could establish a system that helps us manage the ERDDAP dataset workflow, monitor updates, and send notifications to users when there are updates in ERDDAP.
Project Deliverables:
Become familiar and able to deploy ERDDAP docker. Collaborate with Supervisor Design, Experiment and Test the monitor function and ERDDAP Management Server.
