The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold a valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate, or will hold one by September 1, 2024
Excellent Classroom Management Skills
Endorsation and methodology courses in the appropriate Subject area and level
Holds a Master of Education Degree in Counselling from an accredited university. Degree must include graduate level courses in:
Counselling strategies and interventions
Individual counselling theory and techniques.
Group counselling theory and techniques.
Assessment or testing.
Career and transition counselling and techniques.
Professional practice issues and ethics.
Diversity or culturally responsive pedagogy
University faculty and on-site supervised school-based practicum of at least 400 hours.
Knowledge and/or experience in inclusive teaching and assessment practices.

Following the shortlisting and interview process, those selected could be offered a probationary or term contract with CBVRCE. Salary and benefits are as outlined in the Nova Scotia Teachers Provincial Agreement. Specific positions (Grade, school, etc) will be available at a later date and communicated to successful applicants. If an early hire contract is awarded for a Guidance/School Counsellor position and no such position is available upon completion of internal staffing, the successful applicant will be awarded a classroom teaching position.
