MLA Lab Instructor – Cardiology Technologist Program

We are currently seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our faculty of Lab Instructors within our Cardiology Technologist Program in Dalhousie, NS. This role would be responsible for delivering the core content of a full curriculum that has been developed with the outlined responsibilities below.

• Location: Halifax, NS (Dalhousie University)
• Employment Type: Part-Time Contract

What You Will Be Doing:

• Demonstrate lab skills as necessary for successful phlebotomy
• Assist with all demonstrations scheduled during each lab session and assist in preparing students for the hands-on practice session
• Excellent communication and collaboration with the Lead Lab instructor and other instructors
• Actively observe and check in with assigned students working in the lab and answer all questions put forward by the students
• Evaluate students in accordance with specified criteria and complete detailed written evaluations on each student as required
• Provide feedback to students in the moment and question students to ensure they have a full understanding or expectations
• Participate in the lab debriefing session with the students – highlight student strengths, areas for improvement, correct procedures, etc.

The schedule is as follows:

• Time: 5:30-9:30pm weekdays & 10:30am-2:30pm or 1:00-4:00pm on weekends
• Dates: Aug 24th – Sept 28th

Please note, labs run seven-days per week with designated days off. MLA Instructors will be asked to attend a minimum of 12 shifts during the span of the lab block.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and have current registration with CSMLS
• A minimum of 24 months of working experience in their field of study to qualify as an industry instructor.
• Previous preceptor training experience is an asset.

Contract length: 1 month

Salary: $30.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
• Day shift
• Evening shift
• Monday to Friday
• Morning shift
• Weekends as needed
