Job End Date Feb 14, 2025 The expected pay range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000/year Job Summary The Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research fellow funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund. The successful candidate will work as a member of the Accelerating Community Energy Transformation ( ACET ) team at UBC (Applied Science and Education). Researchers in ACET investigate questions around transdisciplinary research, collaborate education, and energy transition. Reporting to the co-principal investigators Profs. Naoko Ellis and Derek Gladwin, the postdoctoral research fellow will support the successful delivery of the project by providing specialized knowledge related to Energy (open to diverse possibilities of discipline such as in technical, humanities, education, policy, etc.) with a strong background in sustainability, regenerative design, transdisciplinary research, and collaborative learning. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, renewable to 2 years subject to work performance and budget. The anticipated start date is February 15, 2024 or as soon as possible. Qualifications PhD and related experience in social change or operations research with a focus on sustainability completed within the last 3 years. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral. Established publication and output record (emphasizing publication quality over quantity). Ability and willingness to coordinate and manage projects, including leading team meetings, overseeing day-to-day tasks (both research and administrative), meeting deadlines, and working with government and community stakeholders. Ability to independently make day-to-day decisions in alignment with the purpose and objectives of the research project, and to know when to escalate issues to the supervisor. Openness and adaptability in working with others. Knowledge of energy systems, education, transition, etc. is required. Expected Responsibilities The selected candidate will have excellent leadership ability/potential and strong communication skills. Their primary responsibilities will be to: 1) work both independently and with other researchers, including mentoring graduate student researchers; 2) produce high-quality outputs in the forms of journal publications, conference presentations, and reports; 3) lead project administration, including communications with research partners and project stakeholders and deliverables; and 4) develop funding applications for continued research. The candidate should be independent and have the ability to develop and pursue new, creative research ideas. Contribute to knowledge exchange and knowledge transfer (promoting the workshop/public talks series among academic and non-academic audiences) Communicate directly with government partners and stakeholders in gathering data and other information, and co-developing research directions. Coordinate and collaborate with researchers from other relevant disciplines. Participate in and develop external networks (maintain links with selected external partners and promote project activities – conferences, workshops, public engagement activities) Coordinate workshops and external public engagement activities Write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts. Develop and write funding applications. Prepare written project communications including reports, memos, and presentations, and maintain clear records of all project activities. Define and deliver on deadlines. Ensure ethical research practices and standards are always followed. Mentorship of junior project participants, including graduate and undergraduate students. Work Location The primary work location is the UBC Vancouver Campus.
