Job Description
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Monitor on active construction sites to join our team based out of Vancouver, British Columbia . As our Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Monitor, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team. Responsibilities Completing ESC monitoring at various sites within the lower mainland for compliance with the local bylaws and ESC Plans, Conduct water quality monitoring and sampling on- and off-Site, Prepare ESC monitoring reports for each site visit; Work with junior and senior staff in Thurber’s environmental and geotechnical teams; and Taking initiative to develop your skills that align with your career goals, your areas of expertise and interests. Qualifications Candidates at all levels including; Applied Science Technologist (AScT), Environmental Professional in Training (EPt) or EP, BC Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) or equivalent, CPESC or CPESC-IT (EnviroCert International) Engineering in Training (EIT) Professional Engineer (P.Eng), or Biologist in Training (BIT) or higher. Additional desirable assets include familiarity with water treatment systems, contaminated sites assessment/remediation, environmental monitoring, geoscience. Desirable Skills Erosion and sediment control monitoring experience on construction projects, linear developments, and pipelines. Skill in the design and placement of site-specific erosion and sediment control measures. Certification or experience in related fields (environmental, engineering, hydrology, geo-science) is considered an asset. Experience in dealing with local government and developers within the lower mainland. Knowledge of municipal bylaw requirements for water quality monitoring to protect streams and drainage systems, and provincial and federal water quality requirements for the protection of freshwater aquatic life. Strong writing and communication skills, desire to grow business, and work closely (both in a field lead and support role) with other environmental professionals, environmental discipline leads, and First Nations. Proficiency in the operation of field equipment. Highly motivated with an ability to work both independently and in a team environment; Strong technical writing and computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing); Strong interpersonal and communication skills; A commitment to working safely and promoting safety, a safety-first culture; and Standard safety certifications for working in the Construction Industry are desirable. A valid Class 5 driver’s license, and confidence driving in all weather conditions. Base Salary Range $48,000 – $88,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week. The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting. The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting. Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
