The Opportunity
We are growing and looking for a motivated Industrial Engineer to join the Manufacturing Engineering team working in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Objective & Purpose
- The purpose of this role is to improve and automate manufacturing processes using the company’s ERP system and associated applications. This work includes executing software application and physical improvements to the production and warehousing processes tied to this purpose.
- This role’s objective is to improve manufacturing process maturity and efficiency by reducing staff effort and improving quality and accuracy of ERP and related applications-based activities and transactions. This includes real-time dashboarding of manufacturing performance and capacity management.
- This role will also lead Business Process Management (BPM) improvements for the Operations group and will actively participate in “digitizing” the business in collaboration with the Design Engineering group.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement improved tools to build short and long-term material requirements and production capacity plans.
- Further implement and optimize the Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) application and leverage to analyze and correct assembly times vs. standards.
- Implement automated production dashboards that visually show jobs in progress by work centre and assign job priority to each work centre queue.
- Implement Rough Cut Capacity Planning to help manufacturing visualize the overall workload by work centre and help production proactively move resources to optimize throughput and reduce bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with the Supply Chain group to further automate Purchase Order generation in the SYSPRO ERP system.
- Implement necessary reporting tools to execute Engineering Change Order effectivity planning for accurate material phase in / phase out.
- Implement multi-bin and bar code scanning processes in the warehouse to drive improved accuracy in inventory, kitting, and shipping activities and transactions.
- Further automate daily management reporting dashboards including those for critical shortages and critical to manufacture actioning.
- Implement automated expediting dashboards for the warehouse to prioritize job kitting and fulfillment of material shortages for production.
- Create and continually improve Production KPI dashboards using Power BI.
- Provide leadership and champion the advancement of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Research and present innovative solutions to production problems.
- Identify, investigate, and recommend advanced tools and equipment including supporting ROI analysis. Coordinate the timely implementation of approved recommendations into the production process.
- Assist in development of multi-year plans to improve manufacturing efficiency, cost effectiveness, quality, and process maturity.
- Assist in development of annual equipment and departmental operating budgets (CAPEX).
- Other duties as required.
Education, Training & Experience
- Industrial Engineering Degree or related training and experience.
- Minimum Five (5) years experience leading ERP implementations in a discrete manufacturing environment.
- Experience with LEAN Manufacturing principles, methods, tools, and techniques.
- Experience with optimizing ERP systems, applications and databases; SYSPRO preferred.
- Experience with issue / project management systems; JIRA preferred.
- Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is an asset.
- Experience with PCBA manufacturing, SMT equipment and operation is an asset.
Skills and Competency Requirements
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office, Issue Management and ERP Applications.
- Experience creating complex dashboards in Power BI by linking to multiple databases.
- Programming/Scripting and macro creation experience (Python, Visual Basic, XML).
- Change management certifications or demonstrated experience.
- Business acumen and understanding of general business practices.
- Confident, self-motivated, and driven; willing to act.
- Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
- Creative and technical problem solver with strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with manufacturing process controls, in process testing, data collection and lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification is an asset.
