Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Junior Engineer, Electrical.


This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. As an Electrical Engineer or Technologist working as part of the Field Service Engineering team, you will provide Electrical Engineering support to our Production team. You will review the ship's electrical design using the 3D model, 2D drawings, and production bill of materials to investigate inquiries. You will review the cable support network, cable routing, and cable termination information as required to clarify and resolve inquiries. You will work indirectly with electrical equipment, reviewing equipment design according to the vendor furnished information. You will work closely with other departments, including Production, Planning, Supply Chain, and other Engineering groups, to ensure our production team can be successful based on the ship design information. You will be responsible for developing engineering change requests as required design updates are identified. This includes development of redline drawing and engineering sketches, bill of materials, and other documentation related to engineering change implementation. You may also be required to work within other Engineering groups, interfacing with our Design Agent, equipment suppliers, and the end customer to discuss items related to the ship design. You must be able to oversee and execute multiple ongoing tasks while working in a high-paced environment with minimal supervision. You must be a team player who works well with other engineers of all disciplines. You will, in some cases, be required to support engineering inquiries related to other engineering disciplines.


Qualifications:
- Education: 
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in relevant discipline preferred, or; Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
- P. Eng, MBA, or PMP considered to be a strong asset.
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia as a Professional Engineer
- Eligibility for membership with Technova as a Certified Engineering Technologist
- Experience:0-5 years of experience in shipbuilding environment
- Experience with 3D models and Ship Construction considered an asset.
- Strong written, verbal & technical communication skills
- Strong understanding of electrical design principles and practices

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).


Key Responsibilities:
- Review Detail Design information using the 3D model, 2D drawings, and Production bill of materials
- Review Cable design information, including cable routing and cable terminations.
- Develop engineering change requests as required, including redline drawings/sketches, Bill of materials, etc.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Review and resolve engineering defects related to the ships design
- Work with other field engineers, production workers, and/or members of various departments to resolve design issues
