General Practitioner

Job Description
General Practitioner in Oncology Regular, Part-time/Full-Time (up to 1.0 FTE) Kamloops, BC BC Cancer is one of the world's renowned cancer organizations. BC Cancer is looking for a General Practitioner in Oncology to join its Kamloops Satellite Clinic team, operated by BC Cancer - Kelowna and located in British Columbia's beautiful Southern Interior Region. Reporting to the Department Head of Medical Oncology at BC Cancer - Kelowna, the GPO will be part of a well-established team of three Medical Oncologists and three GPO's in Kamloops, and more broadly, within the provincial structure for oncology care. Working with a team of specialized medical oncologists and allied health professionals at this Centre, you will participate exclusively in the care of Oncology patients. As a GPO, you would participate in the treatment and follow up of patients after curative and palliative treatment planning, as well as potentially in clinical trials. This Centre provides consultations to individuals across many areas of the Southern Interior, using virtual platforms, and you may be involved in coordinating care with GPOs working in other Centres. There is a large and growing GPO network regionally and provincially, providing excellent opportunities for networking and education. This clinic offers cutting edge therapy in a personalized practice environment, and has support from general practitioners specially trained in oncology and chemotherapy delivery. In the near future, clinical trials enrollment will be supported at the Kamloops site, increasing research and care opportunities. The funding for the position is set at a maximum of 1.0 FTE. However, the opportunity is flexible and could be offered to more than one candidate who is interested in working in the role part-time on a permanent basis. Kamloops is located in British Columbia's interior, and is a city for every season. Nearby to the deep powder snow of Sun Peaks ski resort, the area is an amazing winter playground for snow sports enthusiasts. Equally fantastic as a summer destination for water sports, beaches, golfing, plus year-round outdoor pursuits like fishing, hiking, and camping, Kamloops offers opportunities to make the most of the hot summer climate. This is small town lifestyle perfect for families and those looking for adventure, and it comes with a "side" of urban convenience through a vibrant arts and culture scene, plenty of shopping venues, wineries, craft breweries, and tempting cuisine at local restaurants and cafés. Kamloops is a 4-hour drive to Vancouver (depending on weather conditions), with air travel out of Kamloops Regional Airport. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia and have Canadian certification (FRCP, FRCS or CCFP) at the time of appointment. You must also be suitable for appointment to the University of British Columbia. If you have no prior experience as a GPO, BC Cancer will support your training, involving both didactic virtual teaching, and in-clinic patient-related instruction. Successful candidates will have: Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
