The starting rate is eligible for CPI increase January 1, 2024 Overview The MSU represents full-time undergraduate students at McMaster University. The MSU purpose is to draw into a true society all students at McMaster University. In pursuit of this, it will foster activities and events which will enhance the University experience of its members and contribute to the life of the University as a whole. Further, it will seek to facilitate communication between the student body, the University and other organizations and will organize and regulate student self-government. The MSU Food & Beverage Manager is responsible for providing efficient and effective management of the food and beverage services of the MSU, including TwelvEighty, The Grind, Union Market or successor operations, in addition to the soon to be launched Student Market. The incumbent must demonstrate managerial competence, supplier relationship building and be able to excel in a rapidly changing industry. Management includes but not limited to; operations, financial, human resources, administrative and marketing function. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Interpersonal skills are required to relate effectively with staff, customers, peers, superiors and all external agencies such as suppliers, the L.C.B.O., Fire Department and Department of Health Supervisory skills required to effectively direct and encourage employee Thorough knowledge of the Liquor Licence Act and other relevant laws and regulations require Analytical skills required for problem solving Training skills required to educate staff on the various policies and procedures relevant to the bars Ability to read and interpret policies from various sources, often complex in nature Planning skills required with the ability to execute plans Financial skills required in the preparation, management, analysis and control of budgets exceeding $1,000,000 Judgment required in expenditure decisions, discipline matters and in the daily operations Effort Organizational skills required to schedule staff, coordinate deliveries and maintain reporting schedules Decision-making is often required under stressful or difficult circumstances Working Conditions Must be able to cope with multiple demands simultaneously Non-traditional work hours required, with weekend and evening hours demanded frequently Working conditions can be somewhat disagreeable, with occasional exposure to loud music, smoke, flashing lights and moderate physical danger Training and Experience Related College or Hospitality/Culinary degree or diploma Food & Handler’s Certificate Smart Serve Minimum 5 years experience in a management capacity Equipment Kitchen Equipment, restaurant Equipment, calculator, personal computer, POS equipment, telephone, various hand tools A full job description can be found on the msumcmaster.ca web page.
