About Us The Afghan Women’s Organization Refugee and Immigrant Services is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and a SAH (sponsorship agreement holder). Our vision is of refugees and immigrants, especially those who have experienced wars and persecution and those who are marginalized, leading self-sufficient and dignified lives in a socially inclusive society. AWO works with refugees and immigrants, with a special focus on women and their families. Our mission is to improve immigrant and refugees' quality of life and to promote their social and economic inclusion in order to assist them to become contributing members of society and to live in dignity. Position: The employment worker will support newcomer and refugee clients who are seeking employment. Responsibilities: · Prepare accurate assessments of each individual client's situation e.g., barriers, skills, education, experience, motivation, and employment readiness. · Provide informative and supportive one-on-one counseling, referrals and group activities to individuals to assist them in their job search process. · Develop and deliver Job Search Workshops covering resume writing, interview skills, and workplace rights (and other job search related topics). · Arrange in-house job readiness training for clients. · Work in partnership with other organizations to provide and refer clients to work-specific training, e.g., child-minding, customer service, food handling, restaurant service, cashier, etc. · Refer clients to other employment related trainings available in the community to enhance their employability skills. · Refer clients to other employment services/ resources in the community to address their employment needs. · Provide regular and ongoing follow up with clients. · Maintain accurate program statistics and client files. · Promote public awareness of the information and resources available from the government and community. · Work closely with Settlement and Language Services programming staff to promote integration of services including assisting in the promotion, delivery, and evaluation of services. · Distribute and review evaluation materials. · Attend Local immigration Partnership (LIP) and other related meetings. · Assist participants in networking with employers and monitor their progress. · Assist clients in identifying educational requirements and develop training plans. · Work with clients who have language barriers and cultural differences, or other needs that affect their employment prospects to create viable career plans. · Market clients to potential employers and help clients find jobs or work experience. · Write reports and enter data into OCMS. Qualifications : · Demonstrated experience in employment social/services, job development or related fields; experience working with Ontario Works clients is a strong asset. · Good understanding of all facets of job search and career development including an understanding of labour market trends and resources. · Experience working with newcomers to Canada, strong understanding of barriers to social and economic participation of newcomers in the Greater Toronto Area. · Fluent in oral and written English and Dari, Pashto, and/or Arabic. · Canadian university degree or equivalent, in Career Counselling, Social Services or related discipline. · Excellent outreach and communications skills to develop and maintain professional relationships with employers, generate job leads and secure jobs for clients. · Working knowledge of databases and MS Office, particularly Excel.
