Job Title: STEAM Educator Division: Delivery Reports to: ON Program Delivery Manager Location : Lindsay Makerspace, Kawartha Lakes, ON Salary : $55,000 (negotiable depending on credentials) Full-time: 37.5 hours per week Be part of the innovative future of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning and digital skills training by joining our team. Working alongside rural, remote, Indigenous and other communities, Pinnguaq supports the development of STEAM skills through innovative technology, art, and play. What does success look like at Pinnguaq? - Engaging with thousands of young learners and adults across the country through the delivery of community-centred workshops. - Designing and deploying interactive experiences, online learning modules, and maker kits to teach STEAM fundamentals to all ages. - Publishing the nationally-recognized Root & STEM magazine, create a space to explore diverse voices and stories in STEAM. - Operating makerspaces in Nunavut & Ontario providing hands-on access to tools, equipment, and training for inquisitive minds and makers. As a STEAM Educator, you will be responsible for planning and delivering Pinnguaq’s STEAM programs. As part of the delivery division you will be leading high-quality learning experiences in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in Ontario. Being part of the delivery team is being the public face of the Pinnguaq Association and an ambassador of the work we do. You will build community, STEAM and digital skills with the learners, and make long-lasting sustainable relationships. What does success in this role look like? - Working collaboratively with the Ontario Delivery Team STEAM Educators and the Makerspace Lead to identify programming needs in the City of Kawartha Lakes and occasionally beyond. - Developing and delivering high-quality, community-centred, play-based STEAM and digital skills programming for City of Kawartha Lakes learners of all ages. - The Pinnguaq Kawartha Lakes Makerspace is the spot for STEAM afterschool programming, field trips, and other community events. Responsibilities: - Work collaboratively with the Ontario Delivery Team STEAM Educators, Makerspace Lead, and community partners across the province to identify programming needs and develop associated learning resources (eg. activity plans, slide decks, video tutorials, tutorials, podcasts, etc.) - Deliver high-quality, community-centred, play-based STEAM and digital skills programming for learners of all ages primarily in City of Kawartha Lakes and adjacent communities, and occasionally in communities across the province. - Manage the coordination and logistics needed to travel to and deliver digital literacy workshops in communities across Ontario. - Foster an environment wherein learners enjoy an exceptional program experience and are challenged in a positive, growth-minded manner. - Build and maintain select long-term relationships with key community partners. - Engage with and respond to community members and learners to ensure our programming is community-driven and accessible. - Support evaluation and community surveys, and provide project reporting back to the evaluation team to help improve future program delivery. - Maintain current knowledge of trends, initiatives and best practices of STEAM education and technologies and support their integration in Pinnguaq’s programs as appropriate. - Represent the Pinnguaq Association in a respectful and sensitive manner. - Other duties as assigned such as maintaining teaching and tech equipment, creating registration pages on related apps as needed, recording attendance, capturing delivery events through photos and videos, etc. - Ability to work in-person in our Lindsay Makerspace, in community locations across the City of Kawartha Lakes, and occasionally in other locations across the province. - Note: The Ontario Delivery team is beginning to co-design and deliver STEAM programming with community partners across the province. Opportunities to travel within the province may present themselves in this role. - When needed, work independently and remotely. Attributes and Qualifications: Equal consideration will be given to non-academic skills and experiences of candidates . - We are looking for an educator with demonstrated intermediate to advanced block-based coding skills in software like Scratch, MakeCode Arcade, MIT App Inventor. - Basic to intermediate skills in text-based coding languages like Python, HTML, and Java are considered a valuable asset. - Candidate should be comfortable learning new technology and digital tools. - Experience and passion for leading youth and adult educational workshops and programming. - Collaborative and flexible team player, capable of working in a dynamic team environment. - Excellent decision making and problem solving skills. - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a busy schedule. - Teacher Certification and/or teaching experience is an asset. - Valid G class drivers licence, clean driving record, ability to drive Sprinter-style van are assets. - A Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer (if over the age of 18).
