DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

Description And Responsibilities

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction position is part of the senior management team for the Anglophone North School District. This leadership position is focused on the development, the ongoing monitoring and support for the implementation of subject curricula K-12 at the school level to ensure adherence to prescribed curricula, learning outcomes, achievement standards and supporting guidelines (e.g., safety, copyright, use of instructional time). This position will be a direct liaison to the Curriculum Branch of EECD and will coordinate ongoing professional learning to support the implementation of curricula in line with the Provincial Education Plan. This position will also collaborate with other senior management staff for the planning of in-service and training programs for educators, monitoring of student achievement and evaluation of staff performance. This position will also provide support for School District operations in the development, implementation and support of the District Education plan.

Duties

  • Organize and support the development and implementation of all subject area curricula mandated by the Minister. This includes the continual monitoring of objectives and outcomes established through Department and District policy and guidelines.
  • Research, develop, organize, coordinate and implement strategic long-term staff training programs for Principals and teachers that support the efficient and effective implementation of curriculum standards that positively impact student growth and learning.
  • Prepare reports and analysis of local, provincial, national and other data for the purpose of recommending strategies and programs that support curriculum development and implementation described in School Improvement Plans, District Education plans and the preparation of the District Report Card.
  • Support and provide advice to the Directors of Schools and Principals regarding matters relating to effective implementation of programs and services that support a quality, inclusive education environment in schools.
  • Manage, administer and audit budgets and resources related to curriculum implementation and training programs.
  • Supervise staff in Education Support Centers following the District Accountability policy.
  • Supervise and support the district curriculum team to ensure effective implementation of curriculum.
  • Oversee and participate in meetings, direct interventions, mediations, appeals and other activities that support the effective and efficient delivery of District programs and services.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents, community groups and other agencies that require information or direction regarding issues related to curricula and other issues.

Qualifications And Experience

Masters of Education with course work in curriculum development and supervision of instruction. A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in teaching in the public school system and in progressive leadership roles. The incumbent will have demonstrated experience in the writing of curriculum documents, previous experience in the organization delivery of professional development or training programs, experience in the preparation of reports and presentation to staff or the public. Previous experience in school administration would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Salary: This is a Management and Non-Union Position with a salary range of $4,394.00 - $5,072.00 bi-weekly (12 months).
