About Our Opportunity
KES seeks an experienced business management professional to assume the role of Director, Finance & Operations (DFO) and work in transition with our Executive Director, Finance and Operations over a 23-month period. The DFO is a collaborative and organized leader who will ultimately be responsible for the school’s financial management and facilities operations and will serve as a key member of the KES Management Team and Board of Governors.
Primary responsibilities
· Develops and oversees the annual operating budget, multi-year forecasts, and other relevant reports.
· Leads the organization and management of the Business Office including accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, purchasing, financial reporting, payroll remittance, managing employee benefits and pension plans, risk management, and insurance.
· Maintains financial controls, fixed asset ledgers, capital acquisitions, depreciation, and disposals.
· Ensures regular banking/accounting of all monies and payment of invoices.
· Works with the school’s independent auditors and prepare the necessary documentation for a successful completion of the audit.
· Oversees facilities management which includes building repairs, construction, security, cleaning services, food service contract and careful planning to ensure multi-year support for all buildings and grounds.
· Oversees the management of the School’s transportation program including managing fleet inventory, development of operational procedures, and ensuring safety and compliance.
· Oversees information technology services and directs acquisition and information technology infrastructure.
· Communicates regularly with the Finance Committee and Head of School to prepare for board meetings.
· Collaborates with the Head of School and Board of Governors to secure and deploy financial resources to fulfill the school’s strategic priorities.
· Participates in the development of school strategy, provides recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process.
· Manages risk at the School to ensure the safety of staff and students in their use of the facilities.
· Works with Admissions to create student contracts and generate financial reports for enrollment and retention.
· Works with the School’s Foundations to ensure accurate management and reporting of the School’s endowment and investment portfolio.
Qualifications and Requirements
· 10 years or more of leadership in accounting, finance, operations, or general business management.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, or related area of study .
· Hands-on experience implementing, managing and analyzing budgets and financial reports.
· Some experience in the following areas is preferred: personnel management, employee benefits, legal/contract management, facilities management, risk management, campus safety and security.
· Advanced skillset in critical thinking, data analysis, spreadsheet software, and proficiency with accounting and financial systems.
· Project management experience with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
· Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
· An enthusiastic, collaborative working style is essential.
· Understanding of the complexities of an independent school, inclusive of financial aid process and fundraising is an asset.
