The Registry of Motor Vehicles Division at the Department of Public Works (PW) is responsible for the administration of drivers and vehicles in the province. We are responsible for the policies, legislation, and regulations that guide Road Safety and operate in a proactive regulatory environment. We maintain records regarding vehicles, driver licensing, medical fitness, driver competency, collisions, and compliance, all working together to ensure a safe road network.

About Our Opportunity

The Deputy Registrar of Driver Testing/Training is responsible to oversee and manage key operational areas within the Registry related to all aspects involving drivers and vehicles.

Primary Accountabilities

The Deputy Registrar responsibilities involve administration of the Motor Vehicle Act, Off Highway Vehicles Act and all corresponding regulations. Program area oversite includes driver licensing evaluation and examination or re-examination, and responsibility for licensing of driving schools and instructors. The Deputy Registrar conducts hearings as required by the Act and works with the Registrar and other Deputy Registrar's in establishing policies and procedures. The Deputy Registrar is recognized as the Departmental expert on driver testing/training and represents the Department on national and international committees in this regard.

Qualifications And Experience

This may be the right opportunity if you have a bachelor’s degree along with several years of related experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

You have previous experience conducting critical analysis of existing business processes, providing creative solutions to realize operational efficiencies and to reduce costs and errors. You have demonstrated experience assigning, monitoring and examining the work of staff, managing time and identifying staff training and professional development needs.

You possess exceptional communication (Written and Verbal) and relationship building skills and are able to build and maintain communication and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders A thorough knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and supporting regulations and policies is needed. The ability to work independently and work well under pressure is important given the significant and important nature of the workload. Analytical and problem solving skills are necessary when resolving issues and leading the implementation of program changes.

Working Conditions

  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion.
  • Typically located in comfortable office environment.
  • Much of the time is spent in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
  • Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
  • May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.

Pay Grade: EC 12

Salary Range: $3,561.95 - $4,452.43 Bi-Weekly
