Job Description
Job Title: Food Service Team Member
(Must be a Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident/Working Holiday Visa/Student Visa. Applicants without the correct authorization to work in Canada will NOT be considered.
Work Term: May 30th ??? August 26th, 2024
Reports to: Food Service Manager (Under the overall supervision of Camp Director)
Pay: $124.00/Camp Day*
PURPOSE
To provide necessary assistance to the Food Service Manager on a daily basis in accordance to the Camp Tidnish and Easter Seals Nova Scotia policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Must have completed or be willing to complete Food Safety Certification - compensation available.
- Previous experience working in a busy kitchen and working or volunteering with persons with disabilities considered an asset, though not a requirement.
- Familiarity with special diets (pureed, diabetic, gluten free etc.) considered an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess strong initiative and organizational skills
- Must be able to work in a busy atmosphere
- Must be willing to adjust and adhere to camp policies, procedures and program
- Must be a team player
- Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
Under the direction of the Food Service Manager the Assistant Cook will:
- Be responsible to take part in all recommended training sessions
- Be responsible for assisting the Food Service Managers in meal and snack preparations
- Respect meal times as closely as possible in order to compliment medication schedules and to allow for effective program delivery
- Be responsible, along with the Food Service Manager, to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in all areas of the kitchen
- Be responsible for washing all dishes, pots, serving trays, utensils, etc., and ensuring they meet sanitary health codes under the direction of the Food Service Manager
- Be responsible to ensure ALL garbage is removed from the kitchen and food storage room after every meal
- Be responsible for damp mopping the kitchen floor after every meal and mop every night in partnership with the head cook
- Be responsible for preparing the dishes for the setting of tables one half hour before lunch and supper
- Be responsible, with the Food Service Manager for cleaning the kitchen thoroughly (including ovens, refrigerators, walls, dishwasher, etc.) on the last night of each session;
- Be responsible for gathering dishcloths and kitchen linen every evening
- Be responsible to continually assist camp team in monitoring the health and welfare of campers in all aspects
- Be responsible to keep a regular inventory of cleaning supplies, and inform Food Service Manager if orders are required
- Be responsible to participate in camper related activities when primary duties are completed
- Other duties as required.
*pay includes room & board
The Camp Tidnish season operates from May 30th ??? August 26th, 2024
During this time the Assistant Cook is required to live on site during camp sessions and be on call as required. Hours of work are directly related to a typical camp day plus any additional hours required to fulfill the duties associated with the position.
COVID POLICY:
At Easter Seals Nova Scotia we work with a vulnerable population, and as so, we will continue to implement that full 2-dose vaccinations will be mandatory for all staff, clients, program participants and volunteers directly associated with program delivery at Camp Tidnish. Proof of vaccination will be required. Those who cannot be vaccinated for medical, religious, or cultural reasons must be tested for Co-Vid twice a week through our Workplace Screening Program.
