Working for the Department/Faculty The CHANGE Health Community Program (CHCP) is a program to help families “re-learn” healthy living by providing lifestyle intervention programming in four main areas (physical activity, nutrition, mental health, and social connections). Targeting Alberta families, this innovative healthcare program responds to the need for healthcare to take a community-relevant, preventative, and holistic approach to health and wellness. The program uses a preventative, proactive, community-based model of care that focuses on lifelong wellness, which is in direct contrast to our current disease management models of care. It is a customized approach to health supported by an inter-professional team of family doctors, dietitians, kinesiologists, and mental health professionals. Position The Indigenous Community Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting the activities of the CHCP, specifically in establishing and maintaining relationships with Indigenous partners. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Coordinator will contribute to program activities, ensuring the successful adaptation of the CHCP for Indigenous communities, building capacity, and fostering partnerships. Duties Identify opportunities for partnership with Indigenous community organizations and seek out additional partnership opportunities, including with additional Indigenous Nations and agencies Develop and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, including Nations, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers Maintain strong relationships with program participants and site contacts Communicate regularly with team members and project partners Develop procedures to support the implementation of the program at each community site Coordinate with Indigenous community sites to ensure program activities are conducted smoothly and ethically and meet Program milestones Work with the community to support recruitment of participants to participate in the program Plan and coordinate program schedules to ensure individual sites have the resources and materials required to conduct programming Provide clear and understandable advice and recommendations based on experience and knowledge to support informed decision making by leaders Gain the trust of leaders and other team members by providing information and advice in a transparent and professional manner Adhere to ethical conduct and privacy requirements at all times Assist the CHANGE Team in achieving project timelines and milestones Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, social sciences, community engagement, or related disciplines and 5-7 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Master’s degree preferred. Three or more years of experience working closely with Indigenous communities Demonstrated understanding of the cultural knowledge and perspective required to connect with Indigenous communities. Knowledge of Treaty 6, 7, and 8 communities is an asset Good knowledge and understanding of health and social service supports available for individuals and families in the community Demonstrated experience (1-2 years) in community engagement, community organization, and partnership development Ability to adapt to rapidly changing demands and commitment to creating equitable, diverse, and inclusive practices. Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and teamwork skills.Excellent prioritization, organization, and multi-tasking skills Strong knowledge and experience in computer software applications (e.g. Adobe, Canva, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Zoom, e-mail, internet, etc.) Preferred Qualifications Ability to speak and communicate in any Indigenous language is an asset Work history in a non-profit or social services environment is preferred Demonstrated experience with social media, digital communications, and/or graphic design is preferred Driver’s license (class 5) is an asset; Access to a dependable vehicle or public transit to attend off-site community programs is an asset How to Apply Note: Online applications are accepted until midnight Mountain Standard Time of the closing date.
