Requisition ID: 11039 Department: Office of the City Clerk Service: Mun Elections & French Language Services Branch: Elections Branch Employment Type: 1 Permanent Full Time Position Work Hours: 35 hours per week Affiliation: CIPP Salary Information: $69,713.28 - $84,824.74 annually (2022 rates of pay) Location: 1221-B Cyrville Road City: Ottawa, ON Job Category: Administrative and Support Services Application Close: 15/01/2024 JOB SUMMARY French Language Services is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of strategic and business initiatives related to Council approved By-Law 2001-170 and the Bilingualism Policy for the corporation, and works with City departments to ensure that programs and services meet the linguistic and cultural needs of Ottawa’s French speaking population and with Francophone umbrella organizations and French speaking community groups/networks to promote/assist with access to City programs and services. FLS also provides interpretation, translation, revision and terminology services to the Corporation and Council. You are responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of comprehensive French-language education, awareness and communications initiatives and events. You assist branch management by providing research and analytical support to a variety of French Language Services programs and initiatives, tracking and monitoring related information and data, and ensuring accuracy and integrity. You also provide project management support to the Coordinator, French Language Services and the Manager, Municipal Elections and French Language Services, as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Completion of 3 years of post-secondary education in communications, journalism or public relations, or related field. Minimum of 1 year of experience in the field of customer services, communications, public relations, journalism, marketing and/or media relations. KNOWLEDGE Understanding of concerns, cultural differences and history of French speaking community of the Ottawa area General knowledge of corporate programs and services Procedures regarding French language services Community and government resources related to French language services Use of rich media for communications Communication tactics and techniques using traditional and web-based channels Trends in communications industry and approaches Microsoft Office and related software Local and current events Media process Municipal government Applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Effective verbal and writing (including editing) communications skills in both French and English Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to liaise with communications and creative personnel Ability to propose, develop and implement communication plans and tactics Ability to be creative and think logically Ability to work independently and as part of a team Time management skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment Ability to work with senior management and elected officials Demonstrates good judgment, tact, discretion, diplomacy, creativity and initiative Collaborative approach in working with others Conscientiousness, thorough attention to details Innovation and creativity Flexibility and adaptability Customer service oriented Self-motivated with a positive attitude Organized and dependable Interest in current events and public affairs WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Language Requirement: Designated Day 1 Ready – immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing required.
