Job Description

As a ministry of the government of New Brunswick, the Department of Health is charged with administration and delivery of public healthcare in New Brunswick to a population of approximately 834,690 residents. The mission of the Department of Health is to keep people healthy, prevent illness, and provide timely and appropriate health services. This is accomplished by empowering employees, health professionals, and partners to transform the system to focus on the health and well-being of New Brunswickers.

The New Brunswick Department of Health is seeking an individual to join the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and Epidemiology team as Chief Medical Officer of Health, reporting to the Deputy Minister. As a member of the Executive Management Team, the Chief Medical Officer of Health provides strong leadership and guidance as well as collaboration across the departments they intersect with and with the provinces two Health Networks, to ensure a more cohesive and holistic approach for communicating and advancing a Public Health plan across the province. The successful candidate will be accountable to provide highly responsible and advanced work of a provincial and national scope in relation to Public Health. Duties are performed independently within the limits of broad policies and guidelines, and the Public Health Act, and include the supervision of senior allied medical professionals and management of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health work unit.

As the ideal candidate for the Chief Medical Officer of Health you are an accomplished medical leader from within Public Health, who has demonstrated a proven ability to empower and guide teams toward success. Your strategic approach to developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to public health programs supports your strong relationship building skills and commitment to developing effective partnerships and collaborations. You thrive in challenging environments and consistently deliver results, utilizing strong communication skills to effectively influence change across systems and through system partners and provide support to peers across the whole health service continuum.

Adaptable and committed to continuous improvement, you bring extensive experience in Public Health, with a minimum of six years of relevant experience, including a requisite two years in senior leadership. Your qualifications encompass graduation from an accredited medical school and post-graduate study in a specialized area. Beyond professional credentials, you are in possession of or eligible for a medical license in the Province of New Brunswick and carry a medical specialist certification in Community Medicine/Public Health and Preventative Medicine or an equivalent qualification.
