Job Summary

The Registrar’s Office (RO) is a large, multi-unit, multi-site operation involved in the entire academic experience of Dalhousie students, from recruitment and admissions through to convocation and beyond. Reporting to the Associate Director, Recruitment (Domestic), the Assistant Registrar, Recruitment and Admissions, participates in programs related to recruiting and admitting undergraduate students to Dalhousie, with a primary focus on the Canadian market, but increasingly other pathways (e.g. international, transfer, mature, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in market recruitment strategies including but not limited to school visits, career/college fairs and on-campus events, campus tours and parent information sessions.
  • Create, foster and/or leverage existing strong connections with Indigenous and Black communities within the Atlantic region and beyond, with a particular focus on Mi’kmaq and African Nova Scotian communities to foster interest from prospective students within those communities.
  • Evaluate applicants’ academic credentials in terms of program admission requirements, ensuring that applicants are assessed promptly and accurately, and take corrective action when errors are made.
  • Make admission decisions for all direct entry programs in the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Science, School of Health and Human Performance, and the School of Nursing. Use judgment in determining borderline applications, since many applications are non-routine and complex.
  • Advise new students, on an individual or group basis, on programs, campus supports, work-integrated learning, and degree requirements.
  • Write reports and proposals for new initiatives/ventures and make recommendations based on research, and proactively seek out continuous improvement opportunities and implement process improvements.

Frequent travel for extended periods of time will be required. The successful candidate must have, or obtain, a valid passport and a valid driver’s license. They must also be able to lift and handle boxes up to 20 lbs. on regular basis.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with a minimum of three to five years’ related experience in post-secondary administration (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Considerable experience with public speaking and one-on-one communication.
  • Working knowledge of high school programs in Atlantic Canada and beyond.

Assets

  • Experience working with Indigenous, Black and/or African Nova Scotian communities.
  • Connections to, and/or lived experience as a member of, these communities would also be considered an asset and should be highlighted in the application package.
  • Familiarity with both Canadian and American education systems.
  • Working knowledge or better with common computer applications such as Banner, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe/ PDF .
