Position Description
The Department of English Literatures at Mount Allison University is seeking applications for a three-year term position at the rank of Assistant Professor (subject to budgetary approval) in the subject area of Literature, the Environment, and Climate Change with secondary expertise in eighteenth- and/or nineteenth century literature.
The successful candidate will teach a third-year course called Literature and the Natural World, as well as courses in eighteenth- and/or nineteenth-century literature under such rubrics as ???Cultural Modernity and Its Others? and ???The Enlightenment and Its Critique.? As well, they will teach first- and second-year introductory and survey courses in literary analysis and history. During the term of the contract, the candidate will offer a fourth-year seminar and will be encouraged to develop a third-year genre course in an area of expertise, climate fiction for example.
In their cover letters, applicants should describe their expertise in the primary subject area named above, including their research and teaching experience.
In Place Of a Teaching Portfolio, We Ask Applicants To Submit a 1000-word Teaching Proposal That Indicates How Their Teaching Will Engage Contemporary University Students At Multiple Levels. The Proposal Should Address One Or More Of The Following
- Interdisciplinary teaching practice
- Indigenous / decolonized / anti-racist teaching and learning
- Pedagogical, therapeutic, and ethical deployments of literature
- Learning competencies and skills development
- Experiential learning
Qualified candidates will have a PhD in English, either in hand or near completion.
