We are seeking a passionate and experienced Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our dynamic team at Port City Emergency Veterinary Hospital. As a vital member of our emergency hospital staff, you will play a crucial role in delivering outstanding care to our patients and providing support to our dedicated team of veterinarians. This position involves rotational shift work to ensure 24/7 coverage for our patients. Key Responsibilities: Emergency Patient Care: ‒ Provide immediate care and triage to incoming emergency cases. ‒ Monitor and assess vital signs, administer treatments, and assist with medical procedures. ‒ Collaborate closely with veterinarians to develop and implement treatment plans. Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Procedures: ‒ Perform diagnostic imaging, such as X-rays and ultrasounds, as needed. ‒ Conduct laboratory tests, including blood work, urinalysis, and microbiological testing. ‒ Accurately record and maintain patient records. Surgical Assistance: ‒ Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and equipment for emergency surgeries. ‒ Assist surgeons during procedures and monitor anesthesia. ‒ Provide post-operative care and monitoring. Client Communication: ‒ Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing updates on their pets' conditions. ‒ Educate clients on at-home care and medications. ‒ Offer emotional support and empathy to clients during challenging situations. Emergency Preparedness: ‒ Participate in training and drills to ensure readiness for emergency situations. ‒ Maintain knowledge of emergency protocols and procedures. Team Collaboration: ‒ Work collaboratively with veterinary assistants and other team members to ensure seamless patient care. ‒ Foster a positive and supportive work environment. Qualifications: ‒ Valid certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in New Brunswick. ‒ Experience in emergency veterinary medicine is considered an asset. ‒ Proficiency in using veterinary software and technology. ‒ Strong interpersonal and communication skills. ‒ Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations. ‒ Physical stamina and the ability to lift 50 lbs, or 23 kgs, and restrain animals when necessary. ‒ Commitment to upholding ethical standards and providing exceptional patient care.
