The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies. This position serves as the regional expert and representative in the field of natural resource management, who provides professional and scientific information and technical advice related to detection, identification, assessment and treatment of forest pathogens and abiotic disorders. Responsibilities include assessing current and potential forest pathological problems and opportunities, development and implementation of applied research, pathogen control projects, and extension services. Job Requirements: A Registered Professional Forester (RPF), or eligible for registration as an RPF, with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP). Thesis-based M.Sc. or PhD with an emphasis on forest pathology, mycology, forest health or pest management; AND, A minimum of (4) four years directly related experience, or equivalent training and evidence of scholarly or career achievement in a related area such as forest health or forest pathology may be considered. Experience in pathology including taxonomy, methods for detection and evaluation of pathogen occurrences and impacts, and host-pathogen relationships and population ecology. Experience working with provincial and federal pest management legislation, integrated pest management and methods including natural, chemical and biological control methods. Experience managing multiple projects, setting priorities, and working under pressure requiring adjustments to change. Preference may be given to applicants with: Experience planning and implementing research projects. Provisos A valid BC driver’s licence. Must be willing and physically able to work outdoors in remote areas and in a variety of conditions. Must be willing and able to fly in planes and helicopters. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
