Job Summary
Dalhousie is in search of an Executive Director for its
Centre for Learning and Teaching ( CLT ) . The CLT provides strategic leadership and consultation in all matters related to teaching and learning at the university by facilitating innovation, planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of curriculum and programs. CLT plays a key role in supporting aspects of teaching and learning such as online and blended course delivery, incorporation of Anti-Oppressive and transformative education, Indigenous Knowledges and Ways of Knowing, internationalization and intercultural competency, technological integration, planning and use of teaching spaces, and the administration of student course evaluations. CLT is also important in the professional development of the faculty, including graduate students. The Centre advocates for openness to new ideas, creativity, growth, and development, to enhance the practice and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Academic, the Executive Director is a key member of the university’s academic leadership team and is responsible for the CLT’s strategic plan, organizational structure, budget oversight, and space planning. The Executive Director leads a team of 15 professionals who deliver teaching and learning support to Dalhousie’s faculty and students while embracing and advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility as core to the work of the CLT and learning and teaching at Dalhousie. The Executive Director is also responsible for developing effective and productive relationships with key leaders and units and providing consultation to academic leaders to identify initiatives for teaching and learning to advance Dalhousie’s academic mission. An adjunct appointment in one of Dalhousie’s Faculties may be considered for qualified candidates.
The ideal candidate for Executive Director should have progressive experience providing strategic leadership in university teaching and learning and have a strong record of experience in educational development and/or university teaching. The candidate should possess qualities of collegiality, collaboration, and enthusiasm as they step into this exciting role. The Search Committee recognizes that no single candidate for the position is likely to meet all the following criteria in equal measure, however, it has developed the following as an ideal candidate profile.

Required Qualifications
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to make decisions and plan for growth at operational and strategic levels.
- Ph.D. preferably related to adult education, curriculum studies, educational technology, or other studies relevant to this role.
- Broad expertise in learning theory, curriculum design, development, production, and evaluation.
- Ability to achieve goals using collaborative and consultative processes.
- Excellent interpersonal, mentorship, and supervision skills as well as the ability to build strong collaborative relationships across and within the university.
- A significant track record of education, professional development, and learning in the areas of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, including as it relates to Indigenous and Black perspectives, alongside a strong understanding of the needs of diverse learners, and the ability to apply that learning productively.
