About Us: Wood's Homes is a not-for-profit mental health center based in Calgary Alberta, with locations across Alberta. We are seeking full-time Youth and Family Trainees to join the Wood’s Homes Academy. What is the Wood’s Homes Academy? The Woods’s Homes Academy is a 2-week onboarding program, with a mix of theory and practice, along with opportunities to gain insight and practical skills through the lens of '3 Pillars, Therapeutic Crisis Training and more. You will gain knowledge, skills and understanding of our vision, our mission, and our values – the cornerstones of Wood’s Homes that our Youth and Family Counsellors embody within their role. During the onboarding program, you will receive opportunities to meet and learn from our experienced trainers that have worked within a variety of our different programs within Wood’s Homes. At the Academy, you will be completing your required trainings to help prepare for your role as a front-line worker. Upon completion of the Wood’s Homes’ Academy, you will qualify as a Youth and Family Counsellor I or II. Your specific skillset, attributes, and experience will be assessed, and you will be placed within one of our programs accordingly. Important FAQS before applying: First session will begin February 5-16. Please note that completion of the Academy is a prerequisite to work in the programs. No exceptions will be made. This is a paid position and successful candidates will be compensated for all hours attended and worked. Applicants with a Degree or Diploma in Human Services or Social Sciences and/or equivalent work experience are considered an asset. We have full-time opportunities available after placements. Our full time YFC are expected to commit to a shift work schedule (4 on 4 days off – 11.5 hours). Shifts will include days, evenings, and overnights. Candidates must be available Monday-Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM for the duration of the 2-week training program. Attendance is a mandatory requirement for each day of training. Some programs offer an additional week of site-specific training after the academy Wood's Homes Academy occurs monthly. What Wood’s Homes Offers: Youth and Family Counsellors I pay band within our collective agreement is from $20.32 - $27.67. Youth and Family Counsellors II pay band within our collective agreement is $21.84 – $29.96. Pension plan after 1 year of service Night premium of $3.00 for all hours worked between 11 PM to 7 AM. 3 weeks’ vacation per year. Position Summary: Reporting to the Management of Wood's Homes and specific to each treatment program, the Youth & Family Counsellor Trainee - through supervision, on the job training, and formal education - develops the skills required to perform all the duties of a Youth & Family Counsellor. The Youth & Family Counsellor Trainee works with children, youth and families on rotating shifts that provides coverage twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. The Youth & Family Counsellor Trainee remains in this classification until the educational requirements are met to qualify as a Youth & Family Counsellor I or II. Responsibilities: Develops skills in how to provide a predictable environment that allows for the development of an appropriate level of personal and social functioning for each client. Develops skills and presents a proper role model for each client to utilize in their personality growth. Learns how to recognize and provide a Learns how to participate in supervision and team meetings. Learns how to accurately document daily, weekly, and monthly events and maintains appropriate administrative and client records. Attends and participates in all required meetings and approved conferences. Attends designated in-service seminars and workshops. Receives instruction or direction and asks for guidance and information from team members. Completes all required health and safety training Reports workplace hazards, unsafe or unhealthy conditions, or incidents (including near misses, injuries, or equipment damage) to their direct supervisor. Demonstrates due diligence in being exceptional in the delivery of high-quality services and in meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety Management System at Wood’s Homes. Qualifications: Diploma or degree in the Social Sciences, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or Nursing and/or have related experience. Current CPR and First Aid Certification. Current proof of professional registration may be required for certain diplomas or degrees. Must have class 5 driver’s license (full or GDL). Personal suitability. Why choose us?
