Service: Water Facilities & Treatment Services Branch: Water Production - East Branch Employment Type: 1 Full-time Permanent Work Hours: 35.00 hours per week Affiliation: CUPE 503 Inside/Outside Salary Information: $71,715.28 - $83,909.28 annually (2023 rates of pay) Location: Lemieux Island, 1 River Street City: Ottawa, ON Job Category: Maintenance and Trades Application Close: 15/01/2024 JOB SUMMARY The Water Production branches operate and maintain the City's two water purification plants and the corresponding East or West remote pumping stations, reservoirs and communal well systems. You provide technical support in the process control and plant operations through problem solving, analyzer calibration and maintenance, special studies, analysis of plant performance, data analysis, writing technical reports, and providing recommendations to the branch. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Completion of 3 year community college diploma or university degree in chemistry, biology, or environmental science Minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably in water/waste water treatment, environmental laboratory, or environmental science KNOWLEDGE Water treatment plant operations and process control techniques Ontario Drinking Water Objectives and current regulations regarding drinking water quality Chemistry, physics (hydraulics) and mathematics, including both Imperial and Metric measure Testing procedures for water quality Personal computers and their use RMOC policies and procedures COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Work effectively with internal and external contacts Perform calculations (i.e. chemical dosages/pumping rates, residuals, etc.) Log pertinent data, maintain complete and accurate log book(s) Deal effectively with multiple demands and conflicting priorities Plan, implement, control, and complete projects as assigned with minimal supervision Determine irregularities, take appropriate remedial action and/or advise supervisor Apply scientific method to carry out technical studies and solve process problems Translation of experimental objectives into operation procedures, sample collection and preparation: data compilation and entry into computer database Be proficient in using computer spreadsheet and word processing software Research and develop background knowledge of alternate treatment technologies Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing (i.e. technical reports) Conscientious and reliable Safety awareness Good record of attendance Tact and discretion Communicate effectively and courteously with public and regional staff Strong initiative Prepared to work outside of regular working hours or on-call as required WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted. Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
