Senior Safety, Health and Environment Advisor Competition #: NLH-RE-24-002 Status: Permanent Location: Bishop’s Falls Reporting to the Manager, Safety Health & Environment, Transmission and Rural Operations, you will be required to provide oversight, leadership, professional and technical support in the development, implementation, administration and evaluation of all components of the Safety Health and Environment programs. You will also be expected to exercise a considerable amount of personal initiative and judgment. The Senior Safety, Health and Environment Advisor will provide a strong field presence, promote and provide guidance on safety, health and environmental programs to ensure implementation of these programs and verify compliance. The incumbent shall promote an interdependent safety culture, which will enable the achievement of world class safety performance and demonstrate Power Supply’s commitment to be a safety leader. You will be responsible for the coordination and instruction in Safety, Health and Environment training programs in Transmission and Rural Operations for Island region (TROI). You will be expected to provide input into the development and implementation of technical, safety, health and environment programs. You will also act as the initial point of contact for safety, health and environment matters within TROI. You will be expected to provide a strong field presence within TROI, by providing direction and advice on safety, health and environmental programs and monitors legislative compliance. You will provide direction to operations managers/supervisors at the Departmental/Regional/Plant level on such safety programs as work methods, fall protection, confined space, electrical safety and coordinate the development, implementation and administration of these programs to ensure processes are in place to verify compliance with internal programs and applicable regulations. You will support in the development and maintenance of the Corporate Safety Management System and assist in the development of Transmission and Rural Operations level programs, processes and strategies which promote an interdependent safety culture and which will enable the achievement of world class safety performance. You will support the maintenance of the Corporate Environmental Management System and provide support regionally with respect to operational controls and field support. Job Requirements: To excel in this position you will need to bring the following: Bachelor Degree in Science or Engineering; or graduation from technical college with a technology related degree. Trades person (Electrical, Mechanical or line worker preferred) or Technologist (Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical preferred) Minimum of 8 years progressively responsible experience, beyond attainment of the educational requirements, including extensive experience in the electric utility operation Must be certified or be eligible for certification as a Canadian registered Safety professional (CRSP) Knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends impacting the utility industry and extensive knowledge and experience in stations, generating plants and line maintenance would be an asset Effective written and verbal skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with a variety of personnel, and other industry participants, both internal and external is a must Demonstrated ability to design, plan, and deliver programs to large and small groups Demonstrated experience within a team environment Proficient use of computer software in preparation of monthly reports, audit reports and survey results You must possess and maintain an appropriate valid driver’s license Travel will be required Consideration maybe given to applicants with other levels of education combined with specialized training in occupational health and safety and demonstrated occupational health and safety knowledge and experience.
