What will you do?
- Analyze medical, personal, and financial information to evaluate eligibility for applications submitted for Structured Settlements and Impaired Annuities (SSIA)
- Assess and classify risk. Gather information, review medical reports and tests, and refer cases as required
- Approve cases within SSIA authority limit. Submit cases exceeding limits to be co-signed
- Liaise with business leaders and brokers while delivering exceptional service and expertise
- Communicate and explain decisions effectively to brokers and respond to inquiries from brokers
- Document decisions in underwriting system
- Maintain medical knowledge and stay current on underwriting practices
What do you need to succeed?
- SSIA underwriting experience or a minimum 1-3 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter
- Existing Life and Critical Illness signing authorities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Knowledge of medicine and risk factors
- Service-oriented attitude with interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with our internal and external partners
- Strong communication skills with a passion for providing exceptional service to brokers and internal partners
- As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position reports to a unilingual English-speaking manager outside Quebec
- Specialized training: ALU certificate and commitment to ongoing education with a goal of attaining the Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
