Position Summary: With a strong focus on interdisciplinary work, the position will involve working with researchers from diverse fields such as cell biology, cancer biology, biophysics, neuroscience and cellular biomechanics to meet their bioimaging needs. McGill is ranked among the finest research-intensive universities in the world. The ABIF of McGill University has technical capabilities for standard widefield and confocal microscopy as well as advanced imaging such as live cell imaging, total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), stimulated emission depletion super resolution microscopy, lattice lightsheet microscopy, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), image processing and analysis, spectral imaging and high content screening. More information about the ABIF can be found at: http://www.mcgill.ca/abif The primary duties will include: 1. Work with researchers to determine appropriate infrastructure for experiments and develop experimental designs to address specific research questions. Including consultation on preparing images and data for presentations and publications. 2. Perform training for users on widefield and confocal microscopy platforms. 3. Execute regular maintenance on facility equipment. Develop and modify maintenance protocols on an ongoing basis. Interpret quality control information and initiate repairs if necessary. Document all equipment service. 4. Ensure all facility users adhere to facility policies and procedures. Ensure appropriate access to equipment for all facility users. 5. The microscopy specialist must be able to educate facility users in the fundamentals of microscopy. This includes participation in workshops, tutorials and courses. Qualifications: 1) PhD in preferred areas including Biophysics, Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Bioengineering. 2) Two years of relevant experience. 3) Preferred: at least one year of experience in a scientific platform: maintenance and training. 4) Understanding and hands-on experience in optical microscopy and imaging instruments on live and fixed samples. 5) Familiarity with imaging and image analysis software: ImageJ, Imaris, LASAF, ZEN, MetaMorph. 6) Experience working in a dynamic environment. Must be able to manage a diverse set of obligations on a daily basis with rapidly changing demands and priorities. 7) Strong interpersonal skills for working with facility users, principal investigators and potential new clients within the research community. 8) Ability to communicate complex ideas to people new to the field. 9) Ability to work independently and efficiently but also work well as a part of a team. Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4. Hourly Salary: $35.31 Hours per Week: 35 (Full time) Location: Life Sciences Bldg .
