POSITION SUMMARY: Engage community groups as they discover the wonders of science at TELUS World of Science – Edmonton! As a Community Programs Presenter, you will lead programs for groups of all ages as they take part in Community Group Experiences, PD Day Science Camps and Science Sleepovers. Reporting to the Manager, Camps and Community Programs, the Community Programs Presenter plays a key role in the success of these programs and is responsible for welcoming these very important guests into our facility, delivering epic education programming, and ensuring a safe and hospitable visit from start to finish. The ideal candidate is a natural leader, has strong independent decision making skills and is passionate about working with community groups. Their customer service skills are second to none and they are safety conscious to ensure that these very important guests have an exceptional experience of our facility. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare and set up materials for Community Group Experiences, Sleepovers, and PD Day Camps (demonstration materials, group activities, etc.). Greet and host the sleepover groups, community groups, and camp participants. Present demonstrations and activities following the program and camp agendas. Operate Zeidler Dome equipment for live night sky and laser shows. Supervise the groups on excursions to the exhibit galleries and other areas of TELUS World of Science. Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all program participants. Attend to any of the needs of the group participants. At times must organize and coordinate sleepover meals for the group (late night snack, breakfast …). Ensure program areas are clean after the groups depart. Other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and Abilities: A working knowledge of general science and astronomy is required. Excellent public relations skills (related training preferred). Ability to communicate effectively, in both oral and written English. Must possess a high technical aptitude. Working knowledge of computers, audio and video equipment, etc. an asset. Education and Experience: Post-secondary education in the sciences, engineering or education preferred. Public speaking, teaching or theatrical experience. Formal experience working with young children in a teaching environment. Current Standard First Aid Level C with CPR & AED is required. Note: A clean Police Information Check including the vulnerable sector is a condition of employment for successful candidates. The check must be completed prior to commencement of work and is the financial responsibility of the candidate. Note: The successful candidate must also meet all requirements for ESSF 1689. Flexibility will be required in order to work in both positions (Community Programs Presenter and Sleepover Supervisor). Individuals cannot be hired solely in one role. Wages: $20.19-$25.04 per hour, based on 2017-2022 Collective Agreement (PT180). Hours of Work: Up to 25 hours per week based on bookings. Must be available weekday days, weekday evenings, weekend days, and weekend evenings.
