Outreach Worker Position, Outreach Worker Part-time, 20 hour week with 1 hour unpaid lunch (6 month (or return of incumbent) contract position) Location: Brockville, ON Wage: $27.17 per hour Application Deadline: January 12, 2024; 5pm Email: Outreach Manager: amanda@lgih.ca Grow with us! Leeds & Grenville Interval House is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing services to women and children who have experienced violence & abuse. LGIH provides emergency shelter, counselling and supportive services to women and their children living in the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville. The Opportunity! Reporting to the Outreach Manager - the Outreach Worker is part of the LGIH team and works with women in the community. The Outreach Worker provides assistance with supportive counselling, referrals, housing (both applying to social housing and housing in the community), support at legal appointments and assistance in navigating applications for various needs. Qualifications: Post-secondary education with a college diploma or university degree in a related field such as social work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the VAW sector working directly with clients (3-5 years) Case management experience (3-5 years) Counselling experience from a client centred, trauma-informed, feminist perspective (2 years) Demonstrated abilities in communication, creativity, teamwork, flexibility, and adaptability, accountability, strategic and collaborative thinking Demonstrated organizational skills Demonstrated crisis management skills Ability to handle caseloads, collect statistical data and write reports for review and evaluation Proven knowledge of community resources Understanding and knowledge of both women’s and children’s needs and issues, impacts of violence against women and children, barriers to safety, disabilities, diverse cultures, mental health, and addictions Knowledge of and self-awareness around transference and countertransference Ability to work independently and as part of a team Understanding of the family and criminal legal system and how it impacts on women’s and children’s lives Must adhere to the legal and ethical implications of confidentiality Current CPR and First aid training an asset Satisfactory Vulnerable Checks (PVSC) with future checks every three (3) years Must have a valid driver’s license Must have access to a vehicle Skills: Strong assessment and conflict resolution skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to organize, coordinate, and prioritize own work Ability to make decisions under pressure Ability to work professionally and effectively with complex/at-risk clients with professional, agency and legal requirements Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team and the community Ability to initiate and follow through on programs/projects and work with minimal supervision Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically both written and verbal Ability to interact with others effectively, often in highly charged emotional states. Ability to operate a personal computer with a variety of windows-based software and other office equipment Adhere to the legal and ethical implications of confidentiality. Services Included: Crisis/support counselling to assist individuals seeking assistance, delivered in person, or by other means (e.g. phone, email and videoconference) Types of counselling services include: crisis/supportive counselling (includes safety planning, advocating, providing rights information, referrals, follow-up support, outreach); sexual assault counselling; and long-term supportive counselling to assist women who have experienced abuse to gain a more in-depth understanding of woman abuse and empowerment and cope with the effects of violence Mid and long-term supportive counselling to support abused women’s emotional well-being and healing Develop safety strategies or plans for women and their dependents Outreach to women including promoting additional shelter services Develop and monitor transition plans identifying client goals Provide referrals and advocacy in areas such as long-term counselling, parenting support, job training, health and wellness services, cultural interpretation, legal processes Identify the needs of abused and at-risk women and assist in the development of appropriate services offered by LGIH and other community-based services. Facilitate groups on issues impacting women – housing, budgeting, and support Meet on a regular basis with immediate supervisor re: supervision Actively participate in staff meetings Programming: Facilitate transportation to and from appointments Provide support to women as requested – viewing housing, attending appointments, court, etc Assist and support women in navigating the legal system Develop and maintain strong working relations with social housing and other housing programs available Work with women residing in public housing to continue to maintain their housing unit Promote and encourage LGIH Outreach Program in the community Promote and support community activities and initiatives Develop strong links with existing community services Participate in pro-active initiatives related to existing and potential housing options LGIH welcomes applications from diverse individuals who self-identify on the basis of any of the protected grounds under the Human Rights Code .
