About PAQ: PAQ is an Indigenous organization that accompanies First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples facing housing insecurity in Tio’tià: ke / Montréal. Using a culturally adapted approach based on empowerment and harm reduction, we offer shelter, housing options and services that promote well-being and healing, and strengthen community. We work in partnership to advocate for the health and housing rights of urban Indigenous Peoples. As a part of the PAQ team, you will be joining a group of individuals who are committed to helping change the lives of Indigenous men and women in Montreal. What you’ll be doing: The Kitchen Helper is responsible for assisting the Cooks to provide nutritional meals to the PAQ community members. This Kitchen Helper will have to be present at PAQ (169 R. de la Gauchetière E.) every Saturday-Wednesday, from 4 pm - 8 pm (20 hours per week). Duties and Responsibilities: Cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas to establish proper hygiene Washing and storing all cooking appliances, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes Assisting Cooks by performing basic preparatory tasks, including washing and cutting produce, combining ingredients in recipes, and cleaning meat and fish Sweeping and mopping kitchen floors and wiping walls Receiving, labeling, and storing deliveries of produce and other items Promptly responding to instructions and bringing meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen Monitoring recipes on the stove and in the oven to ensure proper cooking Checking each order contains the right type and amount of side dishes Desired Skills and Experience : Demonstrated understanding and commitment to reconciliation with Canada’s Indigenous peoples Inclusive, non-judgmental, and respectful of people from various backgrounds Aware of issues faced by diverse communities: poverty, colonization, racism, homelessness, survival sex work, mental health, substance use, etc. Keenness to follow instructions and prepare ingredients according to the Chef’s instructions Basic understanding of how to use kitchen equipment Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing conditions Good verbal communication and time management Contract: part-time, permanent (20 hours per week) Location: Downtown Montréal at the PAQ shelter; this role cannot be carried out remotely Compensation: $20/hr
