Job Description:
Accountability: The Groundworker reports directly to the Cemetery Grounds Operation Supervisor
Summary:
Through a government student grant program, the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth is looking to hire two (2) Groundworkers for our Catholic cemeteries with us for a 8 weeks placement starting July until the end of August. The Cemetery Groundworker is responsible for the maintenance for the three Catholic cemeteries in the Halifax Regional Municipality according to operational standards, specifications, policies and provincial legislation.
In keeping with the government grant, applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada, legally entitled to work in Canada and must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the work assignment. The successful candidate must be able to commit to the full duration of the work assignment (summer through the end of August) and have been a full-time student in the past semester and planning to return to full time studies in the fall.

Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mount Olivet Cemetery, and Holy Cross Cemetery

The maintenance and operations activities of the three catholic cemeteries including but not limited to:
Position Relationships:
The Groundworker will work as a member of a team of maintenance employees. The Groundworker may at times work side by side with contractors, and/or service providers.

Offer of employment is contingent on the Canada Summer jobs funding approval and on upon the completion of all applicable background checks and confirmation of references and credentials, the results of which must be satisfactory to the employer.
Responsible Ministry:
The person who fills this position is required to consent to a Police Record Check and to sign an agreement to abide by the Responsible Ministry protocols of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth.
