About The Organization

The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security (Dallaire Institute) was established in 2007 by retired Lieutenant-General the Honourable Rom̩o Dallaire, former Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda ( UNAMIR ). Our mission is to develop new strategies and tactics to progressively end the recruitment and use of children as soldiers worldwide.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance and Grants Officer will provide financial and administrative support in the day-to-day running of the Dallaire Institute?۪s Finance Department and Grant Department. This will include handling of source documentation, recording of data, month-end processes and reconciliations and preparation of financial reports. The Finance and Grants Officer will also monitor the finance activities in the organization?۪s overseas field offices and work closely with field finance officers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise regularly with Dalhousie Financial Services and Payroll departments regarding payment of invoices and salaries, recording of income and providing financial data on request.
  • Ensure financial transactions are properly authorized and have adequate supporting documentation.
  • Support the Finance Manager and Grant Manager in ensuring procurement processes are followed according to Dalhousie University and donor procurement good practice guidelines.
  • Receive and review monthly cashflow requests from the field offices, review of monthly bank, and submit them to the Finance Manager for approval before onward timely submission to Dalhousie University for payment.
  • Provide capacity development support (either mentoring or coaching) to the finance officers in the field offices.
  • Contribute to regular financial reporting in accordance with internal deadlines and donor requirements as well as assist in the reconciliation of The Dallaire Institute financial data with that of Dalhousie University systems.

Note

The successful candidate will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and Institute guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor?۪s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration with a minimum of 2 years of related experience in finance, grants, accounting, and administration, for a non-profit organization.
  • Proven experience in managing budgets and multiple administrative and finance tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities and deadlines with excellent prioritization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team as well as being flexible and adaptable working in an hybrid environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multicultural, multilingual, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to coach field officers.
