Job Summary
Athletics and Recreation takes a holistic approach to enhancing the Dalhousie experience by creating and sharing ways to engage and connect students through physical activity and wellness, to contribute to student success. Reporting to the Associate Director, Athletic Services, the Evening Supervisor shares responsibility for the operation and delivery of the frontline and retail services provided to Langille Athletic Centre members, students, guests, and visitors, ensuring an exceptional client experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Address inquiries from current and potential members and guests, acting as first point of contact to resolve issues and concerns, and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Complete sales transactions, including handling cash. Assist as required with staffing and building emergencies.
- Plan, facilitate, and implement all intramural programming for the campus community, working with Dalhousie student-focused departments to identify and promote programming. Supervise intramural and recreational programming.
- Provide game day supervision and support for varsity events. Ensure technical equipment is set up and working. Enter game statistics and write game recaps. Coordinate and book travel arrangements for all varsity teams.
- Direct and train casual student staff, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures and ensuring staff are well-versed in all current and upcoming promotions, facility schedules and schedule changes.
- Administer summer camp programs including planning, promotion, registration, payment, and scheduling. Provide day-of facilitation for all camps including drop-off/pick-up, set-up/clean-up, and addressing emergencies.
- Assist with developing promotional material for the facility and with the monitoring of social media accounts.
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
The work schedule for this position will be:
September to June
- Sunday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
- Monday – Thursday 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm
July and August
- Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Scheduling, including changes in scheduling, will be in accordance with the collective agreement.
The incumbent will be required to work outdoors periodically including during inclement weather, and will be working daily in a busy facility around game equipment such as bouncing pickleballs and basketballs.
Required Qualifications
- Community Recreation Management diploma plus approximately three years’ relevant experience in a membership-based facility in a customer service and retail capacity (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Strong customer service, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Strong attention to detail, time management and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to multi-task effectively in busy environment.
- Experience with MSOffice as well as Canva or similar graphic design platforms.
- Current Emergency First Aid certification or completion of certification within the first 3 months of employment.
- Ability to regularly lift, move and set-up equipment weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.
