Position: Full-Time Temporary Position (Commencing Immediately to November 2025)

The Policy Coordinator is responsible for the preparation, analysis and presentation of various policy issues relevant to the Department of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population. The Policy Coordinator will provide expert policy advice to support the Department’s program and policy development cycle and provide high quality advice and assistance regarding national, regional and provincial policy initiatives. This position engages with stakeholders to identify potential opportunities, collaborate on shared objectives, and support the strategic decision making processes.


Duties to include:

  • Assisting in the coordination and development of strategic and operational planning for the division/department;
  • Coordinating the development and writing of various annual reports for the department as per legislative requirements;
  • Preparing and submitting provincial feedback on national reports, strategies, research and policy directions;
  • Leading the development of briefing materials for the Deputy Minster/Minister related to national and/or regional calls/meetings that require their participation;
  • Assessing the current workforce environment vis–à–vis input from industry, relevant stakeholders including industry/employers/labour organizations and staff to provide recommendations about potential strategic development opportunities;
  • Providing strategic advice and recommendations to the Director, Senior Management team, and the Deputy Minister;
  • Developing and implementing effective consultation mechanisms to gather information and ascertain the views of stakeholder groups on specific issues and/or options to ensure the practicality of program design and delivery;
  • Representing the Division as a senior official on various FPT and Regional committees regarding post secondary education and coordinate information to and from the division/department as required;
  • Applying qualitative and quantitative research skills to collect evidence for policy making, including but not limited to: reviewing the scholarly and grey literature; the development of surveys and questionnaires; organizing and facilitating focus groups with internal and external stakeholders; developing and delivering one-on-one interviews; and writing findings of research in the approved report templates, such as, but not limited to: policy analysis reports, policy research briefs, focus group reports, internal communication memos, andbriefings notes;
  • Planning and administrating program evaluations as requested - adhering to evaluation standards, ethics, and research methodologies including but not limited to logic models, evaluation plans, evaluation matrices, and standard evaluation reports for management;
  • Other related duties.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Masters degree in a related field with program and policy experience or a Bachelors degree in a related field with extensive program and policy experience.
  • Experience in strategic/business planning, project management, and working with other government departments, external organizations and agencies.
  • Experience in providing presentations and/or focus groups sessions on complex issues to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have a good previous work and attendance record.
  • The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to beginning employment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Bilingual (French/English)


Other Qualifications:

  • Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
  • Designation in Project Management, Program Evaluation and Change Management will be considered an asset.
