The Opportunity
Davis Pier is seeking a full-time consultant with an urban planning focus to join our firm in Halifax, NS and support our work in areas including affordable housing, social infrastructure and public space enhancement, with the overall objective of improving people’s health and well-being. The successful candidate will have expertise in multiple areas, including some of the following: land-use planning, site planning and conceptual design, public health, strategic spatial planning, real estate approvals and development, and community engagement and development. In this role you will manage and deliver exceptional client services necessary to design, plan, and implement lasting change and improvement in complex public sector and community environments.

Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive urban/community planning strategies and recommendations to address client needs
- Evaluate the environmental, economic, and social impacts of urban development projects
- Project manage and facilitate the implementation of plans to improve infrastructure and public space with a focus improving communities
- Provide knowledge of zoning regulations, development processes, and land use policies
- Design and conduct inclusive community consultation and engagement processes
- Help foster client relationships within project environments
- Assist in developing high quality project deliverables
- Research, analysis and managing complex planning projects
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local, provincial and federal laws
- Design and facilitate client workshops and interviews
- Use evidence-based decision-making and insights to develop strategic approaches to public sector transformation
- Seamlessly integrate with client teams and development of tailored approaches to project delivery to ensure the engagement outcomes are delivered in an non-disruptive manner
- Accountability for managing project budgets to ensure profitability of engagements
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills
- Apply expertise in land use, planning practices, and community development to inform decisions on private and public sector projects
Qualifications
Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Formal education in Planning, Architecture, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex planning projects in public and private sectors
- Knowledge of specializations such as land use planning/zoning, economic development, transportation planning, environmental planning, urban design, real estate development, and planning-related legal issues and procedures
- Knowledge of research methods and principles related to urban/community growth and development
- Knowledge of inclusive and participatory citizen involvement and engagement techniques
- Flexible, agile, and action oriented
- Possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Previous consulting experience would be considered an asset
