Accountant

Who are we looking for?

Natural Forces is seeking a candidate who is fluent in English and French to fill an Accountant role to support and engage with our team in France. This is a full-time position based at our head office in downtown Halifax.

The primary responsibilities are:

• Financial, variance and cost analysis to assess, understand and manage project performance • Interpreting data and communicating findings in a clear and concise manner
• Prepare and present financial reports to summarize financial performance, highlight metrics and forecast expected results
• Collaborate with the accounting team to optimize existing processes and strengthen internal controls

Key Tasks and Duties

Financial Reporting

• Prepare quarterly financial statements, budgets, and project reports for internal and external stakeholders
• Participate in the annual year-end engagements for a subset of companies in Canada, U.S., and Europe
• Develop and maintain ad-hoc reports to meet the needs of management and other stakeholders
• File necessary government reporting including HST, requests for information and corporate registrations

Budget and Project Reporting

• Update project and corporate budgets within existing account payable system
• Support other business units in delivering periodic spend-to-budget reporting
• Respond to ad-hoc information request with timely and organized reports

Banking and Cash Management

• Prepare accurate payment records using online banking platform
• Respond to internal and external payment inquiries
• Reconcile bank accounts

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 3 years of progressive financial reporting, project accounting and financial analysis experience or with a minimum 3 years of public accounting firm experience
• Post-secondary education in business, finance, or accounting
• CPA designation considered an asset
• Dependable team member interested in learning all aspects of the project accounting cycle
• Must be fluent in English and French

SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Highly detailed
• Strong communication skills: ability to challenge, synthesize and clearly articulate thought process
• Easily motivated and can execute tasks independently & integrate easily with multi-functional teams
• Excellent understanding of Financial Statements
• Proficient with MS Excel and MS Office Suite and Sage Accounting Software
