Summary of Position
The Sous Chef is responsible for overseeing and supervising kitchen staff. They assist with menu planning, inventory, and the efficient set up, breakdown and operation of the kitchen(s) for the full duration of their scheduled shift. They must ensure that food is top quality and that the kitchen is in good condition - keeping stations clean and complying with food safety standards. They must possess a professional and respectful attitude, confidence, patience and an ability to think quickly whilst managing many tasks simultaneously.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness following cleaning and daily checklists
- Assist in the development and maintenance of organizational culture
- Ensure Food Safety and Occupational Health & Safety standards are exceeded
- Ensure stock is fresh and rotated according to food safety requirements
- Prepare and serve food items according to menu design and specification
- Maintain the highest of food quality and presentation standards
- Stock Inventory Management
- Requisition and stock orders as required
- Set up and pack down of production, pastry, servery and pizza oven areas
- Assist in event production and execution when needed
- Customer service and feedback handling
- Contribute to menu creation, design and costing
- Play a role in the Training and Development of employees
- Assist with the performance management of team members
- Fill in for the Chef de Cuisine in planning and directing the culinary program
- Maintain & uphold a positive and professional approach
- Be an ambassador for Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards in and out of the workplace
- Any other duties required and instructed by management
Qualifications and Experience
- 1 – 2 years or more experience in customer service or relevant role is an advantage
- Proficiency in English, multilingual (specifically French) is an asset

Summer 2024 employment - May 2024 start date with potential to start in April
Job Type: Seasonal
Contract length: 5 months
Salary: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
